![]() She took me through the process of getting ready for the session, then I was handed off to another set of sisters, who walked me through the first part of the session. I went to the temple, armed with a parent on each side, and was met by a sweet temple worker. Don't feel guilty if you aren't feeling the spirit. Be honest with yourself and honest with God. Don't feel like you should be feeling something. My advice to any sisters preparing to soon enter the temple would be this: don't fret. The ordinances that are performed within the temple aren't familiar, by any means, but the ideas and principles behind them are. I was struggling to think of a way to talk about the temple, because all that happens in the temple is incredibly sacred and not to be shared lightly (some of it not at all), especially in a place so public and unforgiving as the Internet. I read this talk the night before I entered the Manhattan Temple to receive my endowment, and am reading it for the second time now, a day after becoming endowed. The law of consecration is the law of the temple, it is the law of the celestial kingdom, and it is the law of a celestial mission." The book of Omni records the depth and breadth of that covenant: “Yea, come unto me, and offer your whole souls as an offering unto him” (Omni 1:26). Every missionary who has been to the temple has covenanted to consecrate his all. It is a willingness to give every ounce of energy, every conscious thought, and every drop of passion to this work – to submit our will to God’s will whatever it may be. Some missionaries have found that printing off talks that they felt inspired by and bringing them with them into the mission field was extremely helpful. Though some are older, they all contain words that have kept missionaries feeling hopeful and happy throughout their service. Below is a great collection of links to talks and devotionals that have been favorites of missionaries in years past. One of the greatest ways to do that is to find solace in the uplifting words of the latter-day prophets. When those times come it is important to strengthen yourself, muster up your faith and find a way to buoy yourself up and move forward. Every missionary goes through moments in the mission where they feel discouraged and down because of various aspects of the mission the work may not be progressing and you were hoping it would be, your investigators may have a hard month where commitments aren't being kept as well as they have been in the past, you may have a companion who is not terribly easy to get along with, etc.
